England was a Daguerreotypist in London from 1840 to 1845. England joined the London Stereoscopic Co in 1854, becoming the chief photographer from 1858 to 1863. After this date he operated independently. England was noted for his photographs of landscape, architecture, interiors and sculpture. England photographed in England, Ireland and Switzerland after 1858. England joined the London Photographic Society in 1871 and became president in 1886. He was also associated with the West London Photographic Society, the Photographic Society and the Photographic Society of Great Britain.
